In Era+ MG 1/100 Thunderbolt 2.0 (Manta Ray) Model Kit -Assembly Experience and Design Evaluation of the Model

Box & Accessories Overview

The kit includes a base, with a total of 32 plates. Due to the number of parts, the outer packaging is relatively large, with a volume thicker than a standard MG box. (Reference dimensions: 43×32.5×17.5cm).

New Molded Parts & Details

Each newly molded plate features the marking “MADE IN CHINA 2025”. The kit contains 21 new molded plates in total.

The detailing on the plates remains excellent, with finely sculpted mechanical details. Not all gate marks on the frame parts are hidden, but the design ensures a reasonable and clean look.

The metallic green parts come pre-painted, and most exterior armor parts feature hidden gate marks.

Complete Set After Assembly

The kit includes marking decals and foil stickers.

Compared to the standard Thunder model, the display base card count has been increased to 3 sheets.

Assembly Recommendations

The frame mold has been refined and reinforced, addressing joint stability issues in the original Thunder model. The knee articulation and waist rotation joints are now much tighter, which may require extra force during assembly.

Main Body Design

As a standout model in the RMD Unlimited Series, the Thunder Body features a full internal frame with intricate mechanical details. The major newly molded parts focus on the head and shoulder armor.

After equipping the armor, the figure looks more robust and well-proportioned. The asymmetrical color scheme from the new molded parts adds a fresh and dynamic visual impact compared to the original Thunder model.

Newly Designed Head Sculpt

The head has been completely redesigned, featuring a more streamlined shape inspired by racing helmets. It now includes a full-face visor and foil stickers for the eyes, enhancing the reflective effect and sharp expression.

Updated Shoulder Armor

The dual-color shoulder design resembles the rear wing of a race car. The top transparent parts are backed with foil stickers to improve their visual effect.

Hip Joint Improvements

The hip joints have been redesigned with an extendable locking mechanism, making them more stable under weight and movement.

New Assault Rifle

The new assault rifle features a complex internal structure, a removable magazine, and high detailing.

Poseability & Backpack Integration

【Insert image of the main body riding on the backpack here】
The model can be mounted onto the Devil Ray backpack, but the balance point requires careful adjustment during posing.

Devil Ray Backpack – The Highlight of the Kit

The Devil Ray Backpack is the main attraction of this set. In many aspects, it outshines the main body, especially with its formula-racing-inspired central design.

When fully assembled, the Devil Ray mode reaches over 30cm in length, and with the new display stand, it can be tilted for a dramatic presentation.

Size Comparison

Comparing the main body with the Devil Ray, the backpack’s massive size dominates the scene.

New Cockpit & Pilot Figure

A cockpit with a pilot figure has been added inside the Devil Ray Backpack. The cockpit design resembles a hamster ball, and the orange-red interior gives off a high-performance supercar vibe.

Expanding Mechanical Features

When the Devil Ray’s wings extend, additional internal mechanical details are revealed, with independently rotating propellers on each side.

The hydraulic rods on both sides of the wings can move in sync, and the entire wing structure can rotate vertically.

The nose hydraulic rods feature a pull-out linked movement structure.

Special Features & Weaponry

At the tail of the Devil Ray’s wings, cable parts can be attached to simulate the “Rocket Anchor” launching effect.

Inside each wing, there are multi-jointed mechanical arms designed to hold and connect the rifle blades.

The rifle blade weapon handles can transform, adding playability to the kit.

The missile bay is hidden at the front of the wings, while the large thrusters at the back are vertically adjustable.

Trident Tail Weapon

The trident at the rear of the Devil Ray serves as an additional weapon, though it lacks the versatility of the rifle and blade.

New Display Stand & Stability

The new display stand lacks locking joints but can still firmly support the entire Devil Ray Backpack.

The backpack has two connection methods to the stand, allowing customization based on preference.

Since the kit includes two display stands, the main body and backpack can be displayed separately for interactive posing.

Final Combined Form

The fully combined form without decals already offers a complete and detailed visual experience. For further enhancement, selective application of decals will add extra details.

Balance & Poseability

With the massive Devil Ray Backpack, the visual focus shifts to the backpack, allowing for more relaxed posing of the main body. Thanks to the reinforced joints, even with the huge backpack equipped, the model remains highly posable, which is a huge plus for display enthusiasts.
